Six of Wands

The six of wands is such a pleasant looking card to receive in a reading. It always has serious “hail the conquering chief” vibes, and I mean who doesn’t love a celebratory parade?! While there seem to be some small differences in the way that people interpret this card, it definitely has an air of success and recognition to it. Let’s take a look!

Here we see a man in a red cloak with a red tunic carrying a wand as he rides his white steed. There is a laurel wreath atop his head and another atop his wand. Behind him is a group of people also holding wands and cheering him on as he rides. The sky is blue and the visual atmosphere is one of celebration. While this may not initially look like a while lot, there is a lot to dissect in this image.

Laurel wreaths were awarded to top athletes, politicians and other successful and prominent peoples in Ancient Greece and Rome as a way to celebrate their success or victory. The laurel has long been a sign of victory, peace, and honor. So clearly our man has been victorious in one way or another and he is getting recognition for his success. The laurel wreath on his head signifies spiritual success and the wreath on his wand means future success or continued success. The white horse he rides on is a mystical creature as white horse are often associated with Pegasus or unicorn and are indeed magical in nature. His red and yellow garments symbolize worldly success and spiritual connection, showing us he has faced whatever knowing he is supported in many ways and that knowing has ensured his success. The crowd cheering him on in the background doesn’t seem to phase him so much as he just continues forward without allowing the attention to distract him from where he is going.

Ultimately, this card symbolizes successful ventures and also gaining the recognition from others that can come with success. However this man is so solid in himself and cognizant of the support from spirit which is helping him that he is not distracted by the external recognition. His purpose is deeper than that and he has a good healthy dose of self love that keeps him grounded in his purpose. He knows that he cannot focus on pleasing others through his actions and that he has to focus on the future victory’s coming down the path. It’s great that he’s already been victorious but he knows there is more to conquer if he is going to move into the space meant for him.

When I pull this card I know success and recognition are imminent, but there isn’t as much recognition as say the sun card. The outcome is going to be really good, you will come out on top, and you will succeed at something that’s beneficial for the group. It indicates that you know or perhaps are learning that while you are successful you have to be so on your own merit and know that whatever happens you’ll stick to your guns, so to say. In other words, you know that you cannot please everyone and your self esteem isn’t based on others praise of your accomplishments. Your victory comes from a place of earnest self awareness and a desire to act in the hugest good of all.
