King of Cups

The king of cups is a king like no other. In this day and age and hell for many centuries, men have not been known for their ability to process, express, and accept emotions in a healthy manner. That is not the case for this king…

Here we see a well dressed king sitting on a throne, placed on a stone slab in the middle of the ocean. This shows us he is able to be in his emotions, feel his emotions and at the same time understand that he is wise to let them pass without gripping them too tightly. He understands that emotions, like the tides, come and go and while it is wise to acknowledge them, it is more important to avoid letting them run the show. He has made peace with his emotions and is confident enough to ride them without letting them drown him. Both his throne and his scepter are decorated with lotus flowers, showing us he has reached spiritual enlightenment, and that he is ruling from a place of revolved spirituality. His clothing is blue showing the depths of intuition are not unknown to him and yet his red and yellow cape show us that he is equally as familiar with the pleasures of the material world. This king has found balance both within, and without. The fish in the water, expresses the freedom and joy this king experiences, having traversed all the various paths of spiritual evolution, and eventually reaching the pinnacle of his journey. He now experiences every facet of his life, from love and romance, to psychic connection and emotional intelligence, from a place of enlightenment.

Receiving the king of cups in a reading can be a sign that these qualities will be showing up in your life. It can also signify someone embodying these qualities will show up in your life. The king often tells us of a completion in part of our spiritual journey as well as an acceptance of the deeper emotions that the different levels of spiritual growth can bring rise to. I have found that this card often is a sign a romantic partner may be showing up, one who embodies the qualities of the divine masculine.

Whatever the meaning, this court card is always a blessing of spiritual growth, enriching romantic experiences, and balanced emotions.
