The four of disks is a card with a simple picture that can be seen in a few different ways. Let’s take a look…

Here we have a man with a crown, perhaps a king and he is sitting up on a high wall, the city in the distance behind him. He is wearing a much crimson robe and has coin like pentacle disks with him. He is holding one, two are beneath his feet and one rests atop his crown. He seems to really have a tight grip on the one he is holding! Like chill out, my dude! The town so far away shows is he has distanced himself from others, and the tenacity with which he grips that coin suggests he is hoarding his wealth. We could assume he fears that if he gets near others, he will not be able to keep his wealth from them. Of course that would be hard to know if he doesn’t ever leave his castle wall! His crimson garments suggest he has obtained great physical wealth and that that he holds a lot of value in his earthly possessions. But does this card always indicated being “stingy”? Or is something else going on?
Often, this card can indicate a need to keep an eye on one’s finances. Perhaps they’ve been spending too much and now require discernment on how the money is spent, and on what. Of course it absolutely can indicate that someone is stuck in a lack mentality causing them to hoard their wealth when it isn’t necessary. If they were only to relax a bit and rest into the flow of life they wouldn’t feel the need to hold on so tightly and fear the worst about their money. As usual, the cards surrounding the 4 of pentacles can give some insight into which meaning is more appropriate according to the circumstances unfolding.
