Ace of Swords
The sword suits represent the mind, thoughts, the element of air, intellect, and all things mental. The first card I spent 4 days with is the Ace of Swords. The ace of swords is indicative of beginnings, as all ace cards are, since it represents 1, which in numerology is beginnings/self. But there is a lot more to it than just that, as we will see with all the cards
A brief description of the cards imagery:
There is a cloud to the left of the card which a hand emerges from and in the hand is a double edged sword. The hand has a sort of shining aura about it and it is pointed straight up to the sky. Above the hilt are six little flame like characters, which are actually a Hebrew symbol called “yod”, and they are points of divine energy. According to Madame Pamita in Madam Pamita’s Magical Tarot “Yod is the first letter of the Tetragrammaton, the four letters that represent the unpronounceable name of the Creator. In Hebrew mysticism, this letter symbolically represents a blessing”(23).
Atop the sword is a crown and hanging from the crown are both an olive branch with ripe fruit and opposite a palm frond/branch. The background shows a clear sky and a mountain range off in the distance. This card like all tarot cards is abound with symbology and as I look at it there are several things that stand out to me.
First, the hand appearing out of nowhere offering a shining sword with symbols of power, peace, and blessings seems like a clear sign of spirit telling you “yes”. It is a sign to move forward and be aware of your intention while doing so. You have divine blessing and to some degree it is an auspicious blessing, the way has been cleared for you, but it is up to you how to proceed. Will you choose the path of peace or the path of power? Is there any difference between peace and power or is it up to you to decide if they’re one in the same or not at all? Since it is a sword, which represents air elements/mental energy, the probability of your journeys success coming from your intellect, or from the act of engaging your intellect, is quite high.
While we’re receiving all these suspicious gifts and blessings, it will be up to our mind to see how we can anchor those blessings through our intellect and move forward on our journey hopefully realizing that peace and power are one in the same. It takes wisdom and awareness to not only pick up the symbols on the journey but also to decide how to access or use them so that the foretold positive outcome is assured.
Whenever I read this card intuitively, the message that comes up for me is not that different from the specific symbology of the card. I’ve always seen it as mental power leading you to victory, a resounding yes, the high probability of moving forward in good faith and with the intellect to discern the high path to success. You’re being presented with spiritual blessings and signs to assure you the path ahead is open and it is up to you to act upon it. It’s a blessing and a responsibility because while source can give you blessing and open the road for you, your free will dictates the journey.
