Ace of Cups
The ace of cups is a card rich with so much symbolism that it can take a few glances to truly take it all in. With the cups suit, it brings in inner emotions, spirituality, and intuition, furthering the depth of experience from the mental and analytic world of swords, and the passionate, externally emotional world of wands. Let’s take a look at how the ace of cups brings this in to the tarot.
The ace of cups, like all the ace cards, has a divine hand coming out of a cloud and offering us a divine gift, a sacred chalice. Chalices are representative of feminine energy and often of diving feminine energy. From this cup flows 5 streams of water, representing the four elements plus the element of ether. The hand holding the chalice appears over a body of water. The water flowing out of the cup flows into the body of water below it, symbolizing our connection to divine consciousness from which we draw or intuition and emotional depth. On top of the water we see lotus flowers which symbolize enlightenment, as the beautiful flower blooms out of mucky swamp water, showing us that like the journey from unconsciousness to consciousness the most beautiful things come from some of the darkest places. Finally, we see a white dove, a long time symbol of hope, delivering a communion wafer into the chalice. The communion wafer symbolizes life everlasting and nourishment from the divine with in.
Ace cards are always a big fat yes from the universe, and in the case of the ace of cups it is a sign new energy is coming into your reality. This could be emotional energy, an awareness of growing intuitive depths, or perhaps a new romance or love on the horizon. Receiving the ace of cups in a reading lets you know to keep an eye out for any or all of these things coming your way and to express gratitude for these things making their way into your life.
