3: The Empress
Card 4 of the Major Arcana, numbered 3, is the Empress. This card is one of the most fertile and abundant cards in the deck. It is always a blessing to pull this card in a reading… and on occasion it can be a warning of a blessing that may or may not be desired… let’s take a look!
Looking at The Empress card we can see there is a lot to establish her place as the personification of abundance. We see a young woman dressed in a tunic covered in peonies and roses with a crystal scepter in her right hand, symbolizing wealth beauty and opulence, and her place in divinity. The Empress commands her space with love and divine feminine flow. She doesn’t have to chase.. no baby, she attracts everything she desires. The crown upon her head is adorned with a 13 stars, the number of the Goddess and the number of full moon cycles in a year, further supporting her place as divine feminine royalty and connection to the natural cycles of life. She reclines on what looks like a plush velvet chaise, surrounded by chaffs of wheat, with a river flowing directly towards and around her, showing us that trusting in the flow of abundance, by relaxing and savoring the pleasures and beauty of life will bring us more wealth than we imagine. Next to her chaise is what looks like a small shield with the symbol of Venus on it, showing us we are divinely protected by the Goddess, as well as blessed by her bounty.
Receiving this card in a reading can let us know, depending what position it is in the abundance is around us and or coming to us, that we are in a place of divine feminine flow or depending on the other cards around it, that flow could be blocked. As I said before this card is one of the most fertile cards in the deck and it can often be a card letting you know a pregnancy is in the works! So depending on your desire or lack there of, of becoming pregnant, this is a sign to be extra careful if you’d rather not. Additionally this card can be a sign that you are truly learning to trust in the flow of abundance and receive the abundant nature of reality in every aspect of your life.
Often times when I pull this card, I know money is coming, or an abundance of creative ideas and inspiration could be coming that way too… Regardless of how you interpret it, The Empress is a reason to celebrate the abundant flow of the divine feminine and receive receive receive!!
