1: The Magician

Image
The magician, while technically the second major arcana is numbered with a Roman numeral I indicating that this is the first step of the journey the fool has led us on.   Taking a look at the magician card, our vision is flooded with a variety of things all clamoring for our attention. The young person is dressed in a white robe of a spiritual novice with a belt of light blue indicating intuitive connection, and a red cloak indicating material pleasure, groundedness, good fortune, and physical materialization. Above their head is an infinity symbol reminding us energy is infinite and never ending. In front of the wooden table and above their head are massive vines filled with lilys and roses, signifying both an abundance of spiritual protection and material pleasure/beauty. On the table we see a sword, a wand, a cup, and a disk, representing each of the elements and the minor suits of the tarot. With each of their hands pointing both above them and below them, they are holding...

Major Arcana 0: The Fool

Image
The first card of the major arcana, The Fool, ironically starts with the number 0. There is however an excellent reason for this.. The fool doesn’t quite represent the beginning of the journey, but rather the space between the end of one journey and the beginning of the next. To be the fool requires a lot of optimism and trust that the universe loves you and will guide and protect you no matter what is happening. In the card, we see a young person walking towards the edge of a cliff, dressed in fancy clothing, signifying wealth or status, carrying a small sack at the end of a stick. It looks as though they might walk right off the edge of the cliff as they aren’t even looking in the direction they are walking. How foolish?! To trust that everything will work out, and you will learn so much on the journey. There is also a little white dog walking closely to the person, and it is clear this pup will look out for its friend, whether the cliff face is 2inches or 10feet. The sky is a b...

King of Disks

Image
The king of disks is the very picture of financial abundance as a result of hard work paying off, and continuing to make money for you. But there’s more to this king than that. The king is pictured not only sitting on his throne but also in the illusive castle that is in the background of many of the tarot cards. He has made it to the castle and we can assume he is the king of it. His consistent dedicated action brought him great material rewards, and he knows how to continue making his money and prosperous nature work for him. His throne is covered in vines and grapes, two bulls heads adorning the time and two on the arm rests, symbols of strength and the ability to push through tough situations. A suit of armor peeks out from under his stately robes, also decorated in fruit and vines, letting us know that he is a master of strategy and courage. He is not afraid to do something he knows to be right, regardless of the feedback of others. In his hands he holds a gold disk and a scepter,...

Queen of Disks

Image
The queen of disks is such a powerful card of abundance, and it is rife with symbolism, as all cards are. Let’s take a look… Here we see a queen, situated comfortable on her throne, surround by various signs of prosperity(gold coin/disk, fertility(rabbit), and abundance(flowering vines, grapes). This queen gazes at her disc, not only appreciative of what she has received from sharing her gifts with the world, but knowing that she will also be able to share her wealth with others in exchange for their gifts and services. Her tunic is a deep red, her robe a lush green somewhat resembling a field of rich grass, both colors of material wealth, pleasure, and prosperity. This queen delights in the richness of material experience and has put in the energy to ensure mutually beneficial exchanges will be her reward. Her throne is decorated with smiling cherubs, more fruit, and a goats head, a firm reminder that even though she has reached a place where the abundance of the universe has ble...

Knight of Disks

Image
The knight of disks is peculiar in that it is the only knight card where the knight is not moving. But of course this speaks to the slow and steady pace that the earth element, which the disks represent, is known for.  The knight of disks is shown sitting on his horse on a green hill, overlooking a field that has just been sown with seed. He is holding a disk out in front of him, as they both remain still. The knight is dressed in a suit of armor, with a red tunic and gloves, and the decoration on his helmet resembles foliage.  His horse is also dressed in red accessories with a head dress that resembles foliage. The sky behind them is clear and bright yellow.  The color red, like the muladhara chakra or root chakra, symbolizes material pleasures and earthly abundance, as does the foliage resembling headdresses. The yellow clarity of the sky suggests brightness and optimism, as well as material wealth. Additionally the stillness of both the knight and horse represents the...

Page of Disks

Image
The page of pentacles is a card I love to pull in a reading. While the pentacles or disks tend to be a bit more slow moving than say the wand cards, we see this page as setting a solid foundation for future materializations.  In this card, we see a hound man standing on a plot of land and holding up a single disk, staring at it with reverence. This card indicates someone at the beginning of their journey, someone who is willing to commit to putting in the work to grow their investment and who knows they will see their investment provide for them. The red hat indicates this page has a love of sensual pleasures and knows exactly how he will be enjoying the fruits of his labor once they have matured. The brown and green of his clothing tell us he is grounded and practical and will not seek the return on his investment until it has more than matured, ensuring it is long lasting and fruitful. The bare plot of farm land in the background is the pages investment and it shows that while he...

Ten of Disks

Image
The ten of disks is a beautiful card, and the end of the pentacle suit, signalizing a completion. That isn’t the only thing this card means, though and it is truly a card unto itself. Let’s take a look…   The 10 of pentacles has a massive amount of symbolism strewn throughout it, some more obvious and others quite hidden. Let’s start with the fact that it is the only card to contain several generations of a family! With the pentacles being all about material wealth, we can discern that the wealth we see here is long lasting, has a solid foundation, and is here to stay. This is inter generational wealth, it is grounded in reality and reminds us that financial wealth isn’t the only way we experience material abundance on the earth. The patriarch of the family is sitting in a cloak covered in depictions of fruit on the vine and magic sigils for prosperity. It’s almost as if he has done his magic on the material plane to ensure his family is taken care of well after he is gone. The gra...
