Queen of Swords

Image
The first of the female court cards, the queen of swords has so much to offer us. This card is rich and deep showing the power of someone who has worked to be the mistress of their mind. Sitting high on her throne, this queen has a lot to teach us. We see a regal woman sitting high on a ornamental throne, decorated in cloud covered robes, wearing a crown, and wielding a sword that is pointing high into the clear blue sky. While the clear blue sky is above her, a single bird soaring in it, below it is filled with fluffy grey clouds. Her throne is covered with butterflies, and the head and wings of a cherub. Her crown also is decorated with gold butterflies. Her right hand holds the sword straight up into the sky while her left hand is open as if to receive, her wrist decorated with prayer beads. It also seems as if there are crescent moons adorning her throne... so many symbols are contained in this picture, it is almost hard to focus on one. The queen of swords, like all sword cou...

Knight of Swords

Image
Knight of swords is a truly powerful card and has a lot of symbolism to support that. While the swords are very mental in nature and while a lot of the cards are warnings against our mind getting the best of us, this card seriously celebrates the power of the mind. Let’s take a look; This card shows us an extremely dynamic image of a decorated knight on a white horse, sword raised to the cloud filled sky, charging full speed into whatever challenge is in front of him.  The wind is blowing the trees wildly, the background is smooth and becomes a bit more rocky and mountainous in the foreground. A flock of birds soar in the sky amidst the floating clouds moving with the breeze. The knight of swords is the ideal of youth, strength, courage, steadfastness, and intensity. The knight of sword personifies someone who is boldly moving in the directions of their hopes and dreams, regardless of the challenges that they face on the way there. Some may think those warriors who run to their dea...

Page of Swords

Image
The page of swords is the first in the series of four court cards for the swords family. The first card in the series carries a specific energy with it, even though it is not the first in the minor arcana, it is a signifier of moving into a place of mastery. Page cards are in the beginning of the journey to mastery and so the page of swords doesn’t have as much mastery as the king or queen, but has a more than the number cards in the minor arcana. Let’s go ahead and take a look at the page of swords and see what he has to teach us! Here we have a young man, standing in a field on seemingly uneven ground, there are some light fluffy clouds in the field and birds in the sky. A light breeze fills the air, as we see the trees in the background are billowing, and so is his ponytail. While he holds a sword, its with a pretty awkward grip, making it seem like perhaps he hasn’t mastered the weapon he possesses. Also, he’s moving forward over the terrain and at the same time he’s gazing ba...

Ten of Swords

Image
Ah the illustrious ten of swords! Such a foreboding and tragic looking card. I know in the past that whenever I have seen it in a reading I have been sure that I was about to meet my demise. Of course, in fitting with the rest of the swords, the ten of swords is not what it appears to be and is perceivably a good sign. Let’s take a look... Here we see a person laying face down in the dirt with 10 swords stabbing them all along their spine/back. I tend to think of it more along the spine because of how they are placed, but it depends on how the reader chooses to interpret it. Either way, that’s a lot of swords to have in the back. There is blood spilling out from the wounds into the dirt and their head is turned towards the background. It’s easy to get lost in the seeming brutality of the foreground image. That being said it’s important not to discount the sky. In the sky we see the darkness of the night starting to dissipate as the dawn is rising. The light of the sun is banishing...
