Ace of Cups

Image
The ace of cups is a card rich with so much symbolism that it can take a few glances to truly take it all in. With the cups suit, it brings in inner emotions, spirituality, and intuition, furthering the depth of experience from the mental and analytic world of swords, and the passionate, externally emotional world of wands. Let’s take a look at how the ace of cups brings this in to the tarot.  The ace of cups, like all the ace cards, has a divine hand coming out of a cloud and offering us a divine gift, a sacred chalice. Chalices are representative of feminine energy and often of diving feminine energy. From this cup flows 5 streams of water, representing the four elements plus the element of ether. The hand holding the chalice appears over a body of water. The water flowing out of the cup flows into the body of water below it, symbolizing our connection to divine consciousness from which we draw or intuition and emotional depth. On top of the water we see lotus flowers which symbo...

King of Wands

Image
The patriarch of the wands cards, the king of wands, has an especially strong energy about him. While the queen is just as strong and passionate, the king represents these qualities in a different way.  Here we see a king sitting on his throne which is raised on a platform, suggesting that while he is of this world, he is above all the minor inconveniences and mundane actions of the world. He has learned to channel his passionate energy into action. We also see a salamander near, standing on the platform and looking to the west, the same direction as the king. Notably, the queen of wands and the other court cards had the pyramids of Giza situated in the west. I have always felt that ...

Queen of Wands

The queen of wands might be my favorite queen, in the court cards. It has been so amazing journeying with the energy of this card the last several days, that I don’t even want to move on to the next but alas I know I must. So let’s take a look at this passionate Diva and see what makes her so alluring.  At the very forefront of the card sits a black cat, seemingly guarding her throne, which sits on a platform. She is dressed in a goldenrod gown, shining bright like the sun, with a white cape upon her back and a crown atop her golden hair. In her left hand she holds a sunflower and in her right a wand with fresh buds blooming near the top. Her throne is set upon lions, one under each armrest, and there are lions and sunflowers embroidered into its fabric. In the background we see the pyramids of Giza to the right, mountains to the left, all set against a bright blue sky. The queen sits with her legs spread apart, the only queen in the court cards to do so. This queen is empowered an...
